    Hello Barons,

Note: We are currently on Vanilla Minecraft. Do not use Tekkit to connect to the server!

    [hide=Tekkit Info]
This info will be unhidden when/if we switch back to Tekkit.

We have switched our server to Tekkit!
We are currently running on Tekkit version: 3.1.2 (MC: 1.2.5)

    Server Update log:
    -Tekkit 3.1.2 (August 6, 2012)
    -Tekkit 3.1.1 (July 12, 2012)

Tekkit is an easy to use Minecraft mod pack. What does this mean? In short, it adds loads of new game content, such as:
    -Machines
    -Item transport tubes
    -Energy Transmutation
    -Many more cool features

Tekkit will allow you to keep playing Minecraft how you used to without ruining your gaming experience.

You won't be able to get on the Server without the correct version of Tekkit. Installing Tekkit is very easy, and doesn't require any complicated file patching like some other mods do.

Continue Reading to see the Installation Guide below.

    Installation
You will need to get Tekkit in order to connect to our server. It won't work from regular Minecraft anymore!

    Step 1:
To get started, download the respective Technic launcher for your system:
(these links are subject to change. source: http://www.technicpack.net/launcher/)

Note: If you are on Windows and the .EXE is not working, try using the .JAR instead.

    Step 2:
Run the Technic launcher that you downloaded above. Tekkit is contained inside the Technic launcher. A window should open that looks something like this:

    1. Select "Tekkit" from the List in the Top Left corner.
    2. Click the Options button in the Lower Right corner
    3. Select the "Manual build selection" option
    4. Select "3.1.2| 1.2.5" in the List next to "Select Modpack build" (as seen below)
    5. Click OK to close the Options window.
    6. Log in with your Minecraft account in the lower right corner

Note: The version shown in this picture may not match what you see on your screen! Just follow the above instructions to make sure you get the correct version.

After you log in, Tekkit will start updating. When it is done, it will start up and then you will be able to join the server.

    Troubleshooting
    [hide=Troubleshooting - Click to Open]
#1. Tekkit closes right after I open it, or says something about not finding the Java path:
You don't have the correct version of Java installed. Find the correct version for your system here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-7u4-download-1591157.html

#2. I can get on Tekkit, but when I try to join the Server, it says I don't have the correct Forge version:
You are not on the correct version of Tekkit. You're most likely running on an outdated and older version. To fix this, follow these steps:

    1. Click the Options button in the Lower Right corner
    2. Select the "Manual build selection" option
    3. Select "3.1.2| 1.2.5" in the List next to "Select Modpack build"
    4. Click OK to close the Options window.
    5. Log in with your Minecraft account and try connecting to the Server again

#3. I can get on Tekkit, but when I try to join the Server, it says I'm missing some mods:
You are most likely on a newer version of Tekkit. To fix this:
    1. Find your Tekkit file directory. This is where the Tekkit files are stored
    For Windows users:
    a. Go to Start and search for the Run program, or press the Windows + R hotkey
    b. Type in %appdata% (include the % signs)
    c. Go to the Roaming folder, or make sure you are already in it
    d. Go to the folder named .techniclauncher
    e. Go to the folder named tekkit

    2. Delete all of the files and folders inside the Tekkit directory, except for "saves", "screenshots", "stats", and "texturepacks" (they don't need to be deleted).
    3. Start the TechnicLauncher program again, and follow the Manual Build Selection instructions for Troubleshooting Problem #2 (above) to select the correct version of Tekkit
    4. Log in with your Minecraft account and try connecting to the Server again

    #4. All else has failed!
Just make a post below and ask for help!

    Good thread.

The server started while I was asleep so I didn't get a chance to see what Bukkit plugins actually worked, I need to do a bunch of tweaking after work.

Edit: The only plugin that didn't work was MyHome. Impressive.

MyHome doesn't seem necessary anymore since a bed can be used as a substitute.

MyHome is nice because it lets you warp to your /home without having to die first. I'm pretty sure I saw some version or variation of it working on a Tekkit server before.

Speaking of plugins, there's one called ChopTree that helps in cutting down trees by making them act more like Cacti. It might be making things too easy, but it was a helpful feature on some other servers I've played on.

I look forward to trying this out when I get home from my Grampy's.

I've heard that ChopTree ultimately creates massive amounts of lag.

The launcher won't work for me AT ALL. I run it and it does it's usual "Downloading client" Thing. gets to 96% then stops. I try to run it again "Checking for client updates" Then closes.

I also tried running it as an administrator, same end result.

Darky, what you just described happened to me exactly. It is a little glitchy for some reason. Try doing it over and over again. It will work eventually. It took me about 7 tries yesterday.

in before omg tekkit sucks. it's a team of devs providing a free service and essentially a new game. If anything, figuring out what you had to do to install it will help them fix the problems.

    Updated the top post

Disabled mods and why they are disabled:
    • BuildCraft: RedPower2 almost completely replaces BuildCraft and adds many additional features. See alternatives to BuildCraft HERE (external source)
    • Ender Chests: They crash the server
I think that nasty Macerator placement glitch might still be around.

Alright, honestly. RP2 is not a complete replacement. Things like the Quarry have no REAL substitution, the miner (as suggested on the external source) only digs a 1x1 shaft normally, you have to use scanners for it to even go sideways to get ores. Where as you just place the Quarry, hook up the power, set the tubes and let it run. It's much easier. It may seem redundant but it's really a lot easier to use build craft on certain things than RP2.

There are a lot of RP2 features that outweigh Buildcraft's features. DJ is right that the Quarry has no real equal alternative, but there is the fact that it works extremely slowly. I thought it was cool, though, but sort of inefficient.

IIRC, I read on another Tekkit server's FAQ that the reason they disabled Buildcraft was because it hogged performance; that, and RP2 has a lot of alternatives to it.

And good to see the macerator thing fixed :D
